The Kobold Wars
The Cloud Peaks are dangerous to unprepared travelers. Steep ravines and sudden cliffs combined with harsh winds and icy conditions year-round can lead to fatal falls. Still, rich Athkatlan youths find the afternoon rock climbing excursions that traverse less dangerous areas of the mountains quite thrilling.
The highest mountain in the Cloud Peaks, Mount Speartop, peaks almost 15,000 feet above sea level. It can be seen from Athkatla, 20 miles away, on a clear day. An old white dragon is said to have made its home on Mount Speartop, although whether or not the dragon is still active is unknown.
The Ridge is a 300 foot high fault line with the claim to fame of being the most extensively mined area in all of Amn. The blue-purple diamonds mined here are a signature of the area.
Around the Cloud Peaks are the Hamlar Hills, filled with sheep and goats. These sparsely forested hills host numerous abandoned vineyards and many caves, some of which are inhabited by vagabonds and petty criminals no longer allowed in the cities.
The Cloud Peaks also form the northern border of Amn. Two steep crags known as the Fangs jut out over the Trade Way, a road which leads to the Sword Coast.
